Light Worship
"I was born in 1968 to my parents Victor and Ann.
My father was a photographer before I was born. At an early age I expressed an interest in photography. My father and I set up my first darkroom on a dilapidated pool table in the basement of my childhood home. Armed with a secondhand enlarger that occasionally gave me a jolt of electricity, my father taught me the basics of black and white printing. I remember many many years later upon telling my father that I wanted to take up photography as a profession he said to me "my boy when they come to turn off your power, don't come crying to me!" Indeed when they did, I didn't.
When i was young I was shy in general. I found becoming the high school yearbook photographer helped push me to interact with more people. When high school ended I decided to take my photography education further and study at the Art Institute of Atlanta. After receiving my degree from art school I began assisting professional photographers and learning the ropes. (no, not those ropes your getting ahead of me). From there I began shooting assignments for such clients as Woman's Wear Daily, Miller Beer and Cirque Du Soleil.
In the middle of my commercial career I began shooting some dark artistic images and found it to be very exciting and fulfilling. Working alone in the darkroom, all night at times, I began to produce a set of 4X4 inch prints. In the begining I didn't show this work to anyone. After a while I had enough of these images to put together a small portfolio and showed it to some photographer friends of mine. Many of them felt it was my strongest work to date. As satisfaction in my art continued to grow interest in my commercial work began to diminish. Finally I abandon my mainstream efforts to put all my energy into cultivating this body of work I call lightworship. I have been published in several countries and have even had a few solo gallery exhibits of my work. I guess my greatest dream is to someday have a book published of my work. Keep checking back! I hope that it won't be long!
